The Free and Damped Torsional Vibration Apparatus ProDynami - 1314 studies torsional vibration using three torsion bars and two mass discs. This Free and Damped Torsional Vibration Apparatus features an oil damper for amplitude reduction and an adjustable ball-bearing chuck for bar mounting. It serves as a supplementary experiment to the universal vibration system, studying rotating mass, torsional rigidity, and damping effects. Optional DAQ software enables measurement and calculation of results.

Construction and Design
The Free and Damped Torsional Vibration Apparatus ProDynami - 1314 includes three torsion bars made of stainless steel, with diameters of 3mm, 5mm, and 6mm, each 800mm in length. Two weight discs are provided: a large disc of D=228mm at approximately 4.8kg, and a small disc of D=150mm at approximately 2.7kg. An adjustable ball-bearing chuck, with a diameter range of D=0.5 to 8.0mm, secures the torsion bars in place. An open oil-filled damper reduces vibration amplitude. An exciter unit supports forced vibration experiments. All components are accurately placed in slots of the frame on the vibration system.
Software
Software ProDynami - 1314 (optional). DAQ software specially designed in National Instrument™ LABVIEW™ environment to measure and calculate the results of the apparatus. The software is optional; a set of electrical vibration sensors with clamping set is included when the software is used. The software can be run with any Windows™ environment.
Scope of Delivery
Q: What is the Free and Damped Torsional Vibration Apparatus ProDynami - 1314 used for?
A: It is used to study natural frequency of torsional vibration and the effect of torsional stiffness, rotating mass, and damping on a rotary oscillator.
Q: How many torsion bars and weight discs are included?
A: The apparatus includes 3 torsion bars (3mm, 5mm, 6mm diameter) and 2 weight discs (large D=228mm at approx. 4.8kg, and small D=150mm at approx. 2.7kg).
Q: How is vibration amplitude reduced?
A: An open oil-filled damper is used to reduce the amplitude of vibration.
Q: Is data acquisition software available with this system?
A: Yes, Software ProDynami - 1314 is available as an optional add-on, designed in National Instrument™ LABVIEW™ environment, and can run with any Windows™ environment.
Q: What is the chuck's diameter range?
