The Nozzle Performance Study System ThermoFlux - 7094 is a fully instrumented laboratory unit for studying nozzle performance as a kinetic energy producer and thrust producer using compressed air at up to 10 bar. It includes five interchangeable brass nozzles (four convergent-divergent, 2 mm diameter; one convergent, 2.19 mm diameter; lengths 3.6 mm to 15.8 mm), a baffle plate with adjustable distance, and a compressed air regulator (0 to 10 bar). This nozzle performance study system measures temperature (-100 to 400°C), pressure (2x 0 to 10 bar), mass flow (0.7 to 8.3 g/s), and force (0 to 5 N) via flexion pipe deformation. An optional air compressor (ThermoFlux - 7094) and LabVIEW-based DAQ software are available for continuous operation and PC-based data acquisition.

Construction and Design

The Nozzle Performance Study System ThermoFlux - 7094 is built around a compressed air supply circuit with an inlet pressure of up to 10 bar and an air consumption of approximately 5 g/s. Five interchangeable brass nozzles are provided: four convergent-divergent nozzles with a 2 mm throat diameter and one convergent nozzle with a diameter of 2.19 mm. All nozzles range in length from 3.6 mm to 15.8 mm and are designed for different theoretical expansion ratios. Nozzle exchange is rapid, and air intake is adaptable according to the experiment layout.

A compressed air regulator with a control range of 0 to 10 bar adjusts downstream pressure. A needle valve on the flowmeter adjusts back pressure. A baffle plate is included, and its distance from the nozzle is adjustable for action force measurement. Reaction force (thrust) at the nozzle and action force at the baffle plate are both measured by deformation of a flexion pipe, with a range of 0 to 5 N. A manometer and digital temperature display are installed upstream and downstream of the nozzle. A flowmeter measures mass flow from 0.7 to 8.3 g/s. This nozzle performance study system covers pressure measurement across two channels (0 to 10 bar each) and temperature measurement from -100 to 400°C. Optional DAQ software connects to a PC for data acquisition and processing.
