Construction & Design Details
The apparatus uses stainless steel pipes connected to a constant head tank to ensure stable inlet conditions. The surge study section includes a clear acrylic surge tank with graduated scale, allowing direct observation of surge height. Pressure transducers are positioned at critical points to capture transient signals. The water hammer section includes pressure transducers at both ends of the test pipe to observe the passage of acoustic pressure waves on an oscilloscope.
Experiments
Demonstration of pipe surge phenomena
Study of oscillatory characteristics of a surge tank
Measurement of frictional head loss between reservoir and surge tank
Comparison of measured and theoretical water hammer pressure profiles
Determination of velocity of sound in the pipe
Data Acquisition Software (Optional)
Optional software FM-1849-36SW is developed in the NITM LabVIEW™ environment for use with a compatible DAQ system. The software enables acquisition, processing, and visualization of pressure and transient data on a Windows-based PC. Measured and calculated values can be organized into tables and graphs, with export of comprehensive CSV reports for documentation and analysis.
Standard Scope of Delivery
1 experimental module
1 oscilloscope
1 stopwatch
1 instruction manual
Export & Supply Capability
SCIENTICO manufactures the Pipe Surge and Water Hammer Apparatus FluidoSurge-X 324 for engineering colleges, technical universities, and research laboratories. The unit is suitable for domestic and international supply. Export packing and documentation are provided as per customer and destination requirements.
Q1. What phenomena can be studied using FluidoSurge-X 324?
Pipe surge and water hammer effects resulting from changes in fluid velocity can be studied.
Q2. How is pipe surge generated in the apparatus?
Pipe surge is generated by manually operating the control valve connected to the surge tank.
Q3. How are water hammer effects observed?
Water hammer is produced by rapid valve operation, and pressure waves are displayed on an oscilloscope using pressure transducers.
Q4. Is a hydraulic bench included with the system?
Yes. A hydraulic bench is supplied to provide water supply and flow measurement.
Q5. Is digital data acquisition available?
Yes. Optional DAQ hardware and software are available for advanced data recording and analysis.
