pH Value Control Trainer | NexuMation 59
The pH Value Control Trainer NexuMation 59 introduces control engineering through continuous pH control with standard industrial components. This pH value control trainer neutralizes a caustic solution with an acid using 2 metering pumps and 2 pH value sensors. Its digital controller is parameterizable as P, PI or PID and configurable as continuous, 2-point or 3-point. The product tank is 20L and the chemicals tanks are 2x 5L. A 2-channel line recorder is integrated, and process control software is available.
The pH Value Control Trainer NexuMation 59 provides a comprehensive experimental introduction to the fundamentals of control engineering. It uses continuous pH control as the example process. This pH value control trainer is built with standard industrial components.
Product Overview
The pH value control trainer adds a caustic solution to fresh water by way of a metering pump. The pH-value of this solution is measured. Acid is then added as a neutralizing reagent by way of a second metering pump.
The chemical reaction occurs in a pipeline system. The pH-value is then remeasured. A state-of-the-art digital industrial controller controls the second metering pump with reference to this pH value.
The neutralized solution flows into the product tank. A third manual measurement of the pH-value in the product tank permits disposal of solution with a neutral pH-value.
The pH-value of the input solution can be varied by manually adjusting the metering pump. It can also be varied by changing the quantity of fresh water. This enables disturbances to be simulated.
The controlled variable X and the manipulating variable Y are plotted directly on an integrated 2-channel line recorder. Alternatively, the variables can be tapped as analogue signals at lab jacks on the switch cabinet. This enables external recording equipment such as an oscilloscope or a flatbed plotter to be connected.

Construction and Design
The pH Value Control Trainer NexuMation 59 is built with standard industrial components. A caustic solution is added to fresh water by a metering pump. A second metering pump adds acid as a neutralizing reagent.
The pH value control trainer has 2 pH value sensors. They sit in transparent measuring tanks with overflow. The chemical reaction occurs in a corrosion-resistant piping system.
The trainer has a product tank and 2 chemicals tanks. Both metering pumps are adjustable manually or via the controller. A water connection with control valve and rotameter supplies fresh water.
A digital controller is parameterizable as a P, PI or PID controller. It can be configured as a continuous, 2-point or 3-point controller. A 2-channel line recorder is integrated. Lab jacks on the switch cabinet give access to process variables X and Y.
Software
- Process control software available
- Represents key process variables and executes control functions
Q1. What does the pH value control trainer demonstrate?
It demonstrates the fundamentals of control engineering using continuous pH control. A caustic solution is neutralized with an acid.
Q2. Which controller types can be configured?
The digital controller is parameterizable as a P, PI or PID controller. It can be configured as a continuous, 2-point or 3-point controller.
Q3. How can disturbances be simulated?
Adjust the metering pump manually or vary the quantity of fresh water. Both change the pH-value of the input solution.
Q4. How are the process variables recorded?
Variables X and Y are plotted on the integrated 2-channel line recorder. They are also available as analogue signals at lab jacks for an oscilloscope or flatbed plotter.
Q5. Is process control software available?
Yes. The software represents the key process variables and executes control functions.
