Material Testing Machine Manufacturer India | Scientico

Material testing machines from an Indian works, not a trading desk

Most enquiries that reach us for material testing machines come from a small set of buyers. Usually it is a dealer who already sells lab furniture and glassware and wants a mechanical testing line to go with it, or a technical buyer at a polytechnic or engineering college who has to fill a Strength of Materials lab and has been quoted an imported price that eats half the grant. The third regular caller is a bidder who needs a manufacturer behind a tender, with paperwork that survives scrutiny.

This page is written for all three. It covers the whole materials testing family in one place instead of splitting it across four thin product pages, because nobody specifies a universal testing machine without also thinking about hardness and impact.

Scientico has manufactured laboratory and engineering teaching equipment at its own works in Ambala, Haryana since 1993. We are an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer and exporter, we have supplied to more than 60 countries, and we hold over 320 products across engineering training equipment and allied lab lines. The materials testing bench sits inside our Strength of Materials lab equipment range, largely under the FortiTestX family.

One thing to be clear about at the start. We build teaching and training grade testing machines for instruction, demonstration and routine laboratory work. We are not a NABL accredited calibration or testing laboratory, and we do not present ourselves as one. If your requirement is third party certification of materials, that is a different animal and you should say so early so nobody wastes a quotation cycle.

Where these machines sit in a Strength of Materials lab

A Strength of Materials lab exists to let a student measure and record how a material behaves when it is loaded until it changes shape or breaks. The syllabus normally walks through tension, compression, hardness, torsion, impact and elastic behaviour of springs. Each of those needs its own machine, and the lab is only complete when the set is complete.

That is why a partial order tends to come back to us within a year. A college buys a universal testing machine, runs it for two semesters, then discovers the practical list still has impact and torsion on it. If you are quoting a full lab, quote the family. It reads better in an evaluation and it protects you from a repeat mobilisation for one small machine.

Our published mechanical engineering lab equipment list for B.Tech programmes maps the practicals to machines, and the civil engineering lab equipment list does the same on the civil side, where materials testing overlaps with concrete and construction materials work. Both are useful when you are building a bid schedule and need to show the evaluator that nothing has been left out.

Universal testing machines

The universal testing machine is the centre of the lab. It applies a controlled tensile or compressive load through a moving crosshead and records load against extension, which gives you yield, ultimate tensile strength, percentage elongation and reduction in area.

Standards. For tensile testing of metallic materials the machine and the test method map to IS 1608 and ISO 6892-1. Those two are the references your evaluator will recognise and the ones you should cite in a bid. For other test types run on the same frame, cite the relevant IS code for that specific material rather than stretching the tensile standard to cover it.

What a buyer should specify. Capacity in kN and whether that capacity is genuinely usable across the full range or only at the top of it. Frame type, single column or twin column. Clear space between columns and maximum daylight, because these decide what specimen and what fixture will physically fit. Grip sets, since flat specimen wedge grips and round specimen grips are not interchangeable and are frequently forgotten in the schedule. Load measurement method and the resolution you get from it. Crosshead speed range and whether speed is adjustable under load. Elongation measurement, whether by crosshead travel or by a separate extensometer. Software, data logging and the format in which results can be exported for a lab record. Power supply, since 415V three phase and 230V single phase are both common requests and swapping late is expensive.

Hardness testers, Brinell, Rockwell, Vickers and combined

Hardness is the fastest indirect measure of a material’s resistance to permanent deformation, and it is the test a student will run more often than any other. The three classical methods differ in indenter and in the way the result is read.

Brinell presses a hard ball indenter under a defined load and the operator measures the diameter of the resulting impression. It maps to ASTM E10 and suits coarse grained and non homogeneous materials such as castings.

Rockwell applies a minor then a major load and reads depth of penetration directly on a dial or display, with no optical measurement step. It maps to ASTM E18 and is the quickest method for routine work.

Vickers uses a diamond pyramid indenter and an optical measurement of the diagonals of the impression. It maps to ASTM E92 and covers a very wide hardness range on one scale, which is why it is preferred for thin sections and hard materials.

Conversion between scales is governed by ASTM E140. Be careful here, because conversion is approximate and material dependent. If a tender asks for results in a scale your machine does not directly measure, say that conversion per ASTM E140 is being applied rather than claiming a direct reading.

A combined universal hardness tester puts Brinell, Rockwell and Vickers capability into one frame. For a teaching lab this is usually the better buy, because a single machine covers three practicals on one bench and needs only one set of consumables and training. For a lab that runs one method at high volume, dedicated machines are easier to keep in calibration.

What a buyer should specify. Which methods and which specific scales are required, listed individually. Test load range and whether loads are applied by dead weight or by load cell. Indenters and their material, since diamond indenters are a cost item that is often quoted separately. Measuring microscope magnification and whether measurement is optical or digital. Maximum specimen height and throat depth. Test blocks for verification, which are almost always required by an evaluator and almost always missing from a competitor’s schedule.

Torsion testing machines

A torsion testing machine applies a twisting moment about the axis of a specimen and records torque against angle of twist. From that a student derives the modulus of rigidity, the shear stress at yield and the behaviour of the material past the elastic limit. It is the standard practical for shafts and for any component that carries a rotational load.

Standards. Cite the relevant IS code for the material and specimen geometry you are testing. We would rather write that than print a number we have not verified, and you should hold your suppliers to the same rule.

What a buyer should specify. Torque capacity in Nm. Specimen length range and diameter range, both round and square section if required. Chuck or grip type. Angle of twist measurement method and resolution, since manual protractor reading and digital angle encoding produce very different lab records. Torque measurement, whether by pendulum dynamometer or load cell. Drive method, hand operated or motorised, and gear ratio if geared. Data output and whether a torque against twist curve can be plotted or exported. Our torsion testing machine, FortiTestX 10 is the model most often specified for undergraduate labs.

Impact testing machines, Charpy and Izod

An impact test measures the energy absorbed by a notched specimen when it is fractured by a swinging pendulum. It tells you about toughness and about the brittle behaviour that a slow tensile test will not reveal. Two configurations dominate.

Charpy uses a horizontal specimen supported at both ends, struck behind the notch. It maps to IS 1757 and to ASTM E23.

Izod uses a vertically clamped cantilever specimen, struck above the notch. It maps to IS 1598.

Most machines sold into teaching labs are combined Charpy and Izod units, with interchangeable strikers, anvils and specimen supports. That is the sensible specification because both tests appear on the practical list.

What a buyer should specify. Impact energy capacity in joules for each test mode, since Charpy and Izod capacities on a combined machine are different numbers and quoting only one causes disputes at inspection. Pendulum striking velocity. Scale type, dial or digital, and least count. Specimen dimensions and notch geometry, which differ between the two tests. Whether a notch broaching or specimen notching attachment is included, because a lab without one cannot prepare specimens and will be idle. Safety guarding and pendulum brake, which an inspector will look for. Anchoring requirement and foundation bolts. Our impact testing machine, FortiTestX 15 covers both configurations on one frame.

Spring testing machines

A spring testing machine loads a helical spring in compression or tension and records load against deflection, from which the spring rate and the stiffness are calculated. It is a simple machine and an inexpensive one, and it is the item most often dropped from a schedule and then requested six months later.

Standards. Cite the relevant IS code for the spring type and material in question.

What a buyer should specify. Load capacity in N or kgf. Whether compression only or compression and tension. Maximum free length and maximum deflection. Load measurement method and least count. Deflection measurement, whether by scale, dial gauge or digital readout. Platen diameter and any adaptors required for hooked tension springs.

Positioning against imported brands

Dealers ask us how to argue against a European or Japanese brand in front of a technical committee. The honest answer is that you do not win that argument on specification sheets alone, because on paper the numbers look similar and the committee has seen both.

You win it on delivered cost and on service. Delivered cost is where an Indian built machine usually separates from an import once freight, insurance and duty are added to the invoice. Service is the quieter argument and often the stronger one. Indenters, test blocks, grips and strikers are wear items, and a lab that waits on an overseas parts order loses a semester of practicals. A buyer who needs a technical clarification mid bid also cannot get one quickly from a distributor three time zones away.

What you should not do is claim approvals we do not have. We hold ISO 9001:2015 and we provide CE conformity documentation on applicable models, which you can verify on our quality certifications page. That is the accurate statement, and an accurate statement that survives verification beats an inflated one that gets your bid disqualified.

What to send us to get a quotation

We are quote based and we do not publish prices. That is deliberate. Freight, packing, model configuration and destination change the number enough that a printed price would mislead more buyers than it helped.

To get a usable quotation in one round rather than four, send the following.

  • Machine list with quantities, written as separate line items rather than as a single description.
  • Capacity for each machine, in kN, Nm or joules as applicable.
  • The standards you are required to reference, quoted exactly as they appear in your specification or tender document.
  • Accessories you need included, specifically grips, indenters, test blocks, strikers, anvils and notching attachments.
  • Power supply at site, voltage, phase and frequency.
  • Destination port and whether you want CIF or FOB. We ship FOB or CIF from Nhava Sheva or Mundra.
  • Whether the enquiry is for a live tender, a budget estimate or stock for resale, since the documentation package differs.

Our laboratory equipment RFQ checklist template covers this in a form you can send internally. If you are importing for the first time, read how to import lab equipment from India before you fix your terms, because the incoterm you choose changes who handles clearance at your end.

Documentation for tenders

A tender is won or lost on paperwork as often as on price. The documents most frequently demanded from a manufacturer are a manufacturer authorisation form naming the bidder, quality certification copies, a technical compliance statement mapped clause by clause against the specification, and a declaration of the standards each machine is built and tested against.

We issue a manufacturer authorisation form for lab equipment tenders on request against a specific tender reference. Send the tender number, the issuing body’s description of the item, and your bid submission date, in that order, and do it before the last week. A compliance matrix is easier if you start from our laboratory equipment tender compliance matrix template, and the tender documents checklist for government colleges lists what usually gets asked for. Institutions preparing for accreditation should also look at our NBA accreditation lab documentation guide, since lab records and equipment lists are examined together.

Becoming a distributor

We appoint partners by territory and by segment. Some partners carry the mechanical testing line only, some carry the wider engineering range including fluid mechanics lab equipment such as the multi pump test rig, FluidoSurge X 294, plus renewable energy training equipment, and some also take the nursing lab equipment and pharmacy lab equipment lines into the same institutional customers.

Commercial terms, territory scope and any protection are agreed at application review, not quoted in advance. What we look at is your existing customer base in the education and institutional segment, your technical capability to install and support a machine after it lands, and whether you already bid tenders in your market. Start at locate a distributor to see whether your territory is currently represented.

Talk to us with a specification in hand

The enquiries we turn around fastest are the ones that arrive with capacities, standards and a destination port already written down. The ones that stall are the ones that say only “please send price list for testing machines”, because there is nothing to price.

Write to [email protected] or reach us on WhatsApp or phone at +91 7015865225 with your machine list. If you would rather use a form, everything you need is on our contact page.

One honest ask

We don't gate anything on this site. You just read the whole thing free. If it was useful, leave your email and two things happen: we send you this page as a plain-text block you can paste into a tender file or an internal email, and we notify you the next time we publish a buyer tool like this one. Nothing else. No drip sequence, no sales calls booked without asking.
