What a D.Pharm lab list actually has to cover
The Diploma in Pharmacy is a two year programme regulated by the Pharmacy Council of India, delivered through institutions that are usually also answerable to a state board of technical education or a state pharmacy council. When you build the equipment file for a new D.Pharm institution, or refresh an old one before an inspection visit, you are not writing a shopping list. You are writing an argument that every practical in the prescribed syllabus can physically be performed by the sanctioned batch inside the sanctioned lab hours.
That is the frame I use on every diploma procurement I work on. Take the practical, ask what the student has to hold, then count how many students need to hold it at the same time.
Two cautions before the tables. First, the Education Regulations for the diploma, the prescribed subject list and the inspection proforma are revised periodically. I do not quote area figures, staff ratios, batch caps or item counts from them on this page, because a number that was right two cycles ago is the fastest way to fail a file. Pull the current regulations and the current syllabus document from the Council and from your state board, and reconcile the list below against those two documents before you release a tender. Second, quantities in the tables assume a working batch of thirty students in the lab at one time, split into six groups of five for group apparatus. That is a planning assumption of mine for sizing purposes, not a regulatory figure. Scale linearly against your own sanctioned batch.
How D.Pharm differs from B.Pharm in equipment terms
Institutions that run both programmes often try to write one BOQ for both. That works for maybe sixty percent of the list and creates two problems for the rest.
The degree programme goes further into instrumental analysis, biotechnology, formulation development and pharmaceutical engineering. Its labs carry higher tier analytical instruments and unit operation models that a diploma syllabus simply does not call for. The diploma is oriented toward practice. Its centre of gravity sits in dispensing, compounding technique, product identification, basic evaluation of dosage forms, and the community and hospital pharmacy environment the graduate will actually work in. So the equipment tier drops in three specific ways.
Scale of apparatus. Diploma practicals are bench scale. You are buying a hand operated or single station tablet press for demonstration and small batch work, not a rotary machine sized for a formulation development lab.
Instrument sophistication. Where the degree lab specifies chromatography systems and spectrophotometers with scanning capability, the diploma lab is generally served by colorimeters, simple digital photometers, digital pH meters and standard microscopy. That is not a shortcut. It matches what the syllabus asks the student to do.
Redundancy over range. This is the one that gets missed. A diploma lab needs more copies of fewer items. Thirty students all doing a viscosity or a disintegration exercise in one session will queue on a single unit, and a queue is what an inspector notices. Budget depth first, breadth second.
The mistake I see most often is a diploma institution buying one impressive headline instrument to photograph for the file, then running the whole batch through a single balance. Reverse that instinct.
Pharmaceutics lab
This is the largest and most heavily used space in a D.Pharm department. It carries the dispensing and compounding practicals, dosage form preparation exercises, and basic evaluation of the products the students make.

Glassware, measures, dispensing containers, labels and dispensing furniture are consumables and fittings rather than equipment, but list them separately in the BOQ so the inspection file shows the lab is actually operable and not just furnished with instruments.
Pharmaceutical Chemistry lab
The chemistry lab in a diploma programme handles inorganic and organic identification, limit tests as a category of pharmacopoeial testing, basic titrimetry and simple instrumental measurement.

Pharmacognosy lab
Pharmacognosy is where diploma institutions most often under buy. The subject is taught largely through observation, so microscopes, prepared and unprepared specimens, and museum material carry the teaching load.

Buy the crude drug museum against the syllabus list, not against a supplier catalogue. I have seen files rejected because the jars on the shelf and the drugs in the practical list overlapped by about half.
Human Anatomy and Physiology lab
This lab is model and instrument led. The equipment trains observation, measurement and the use of clinical instruments in a teaching context. Everything here is a training category. Nothing on this page describes a clinical procedure or patient care.

Policy on animal experimentation in undergraduate and diploma teaching has moved substantially toward simulation and alternatives. Sizing the BOQ and writing the quantity column
Three rules keep quantity columns defensible.
Start from the sanctioned intake, not from the total enrolment. Two years of students do not occupy the lab at once, but a full first year batch does, and your lab has to seat it in however many turns your timetable allows. If you run two turns, you halve equipment need and double lab hours. Write down which assumption you used, because an inspector may ask.
Separate per student items, per group items and per lab items into three tiers in the BOQ. Mortars, slabs, spatulas and microscopes are per student or per pair. Extraction assemblies, viscometers and stirrers are per group. Autoclaves, mills, evaporators and stills are per lab or per department. Mixing the tiers in one flat list is how quantity errors get into tenders.
Add a buffer on anything breakable or heavily shared. Glassware, electrodes, microscope objectives and balance pans fail. A file that shows only exact minimum counts also shows an institution with no operating margin.

Documentation the inspection file needs
Equipment that exists but is not documented does not count. For each item, hold the invoice, the delivery challan, the installation record, the operating manual, the calibration or verification record where applicable, and a photograph with the asset tag visible. Maintain a stock register per lab that reconciles to the asset list.
Institutions that also carry engineering or degree accreditations already run this discipline. One clarification worth putting in writing inside your own file: a teaching laboratory is not an accredited testing laboratory. Procurement route
Government and government aided institutions will typically route this through a public procurement portal or a state tender. Two documents cause more rejections than the technical specification ever does. Get the tender document set right using the tender document checklist for government colleges, and if the tender asks for it, get the manufacturer authorisation form issued and signed before the bid closes rather than after.
