Who this page is written for
You sell laboratory and engineering teaching equipment to colleges, polytechnics, technical institutes, training centres or government buyers. You are deciding whether to add another manufacturer to your line card. This page is the argument for doing that, not the form. If you have already decided and simply want to register interest, use the distributor enquiry form and skip the rest.
I have spent fifteen years on the manufacturing and export side of this trade, quoting institutional tenders and managing dealers across several markets. In that time I have seen more dealership relationships stall than succeed. They rarely fail because the equipment was wrong. They fail because nobody wrote down who owns the warranty, whether the manufacturer would sell direct into the same territory, or what happens to stock on file when either side walks away.
So this page does two things. First, it gives you a supplier-neutral checklist you can hold to any teaching equipment manufacturer you are evaluating, including us. Second, it says plainly where Scientico sits inside that checklist, including the parts where the honest answer is “no, we do not do that”.

Who a teaching equipment dealership suits, and who it does not
A dealership in this category is a commercial relationship built on institutional access. The buyer is a purchase committee, a head of department or a tender cell, not a walk-in customer. That single fact decides fit.

The deal I have seen go wrong most often is the third-party listing dressed up as a dealership. Everyone is pleased for two quarters, then a warranty claim arrives and neither side had agreed who attends site. Decide that before the first order, not after it.
The seven tests: what to demand of any teaching equipment manufacturer
Apply these to every supplier on your shortlist. They are not written to flatter us. Several of them are questions we get asked and have to answer carefully.

Why each test earns its place
Catalogue breadth decides how much of the tender you can bid alone. Institutional buyers increasingly package a whole laboratory into a single lot. If you can only cover part of it, you become a sub-supplier to someone else’s bid. Breadth is bargaining power before it is convenience, which is why it is worth walking the whole engineering training equipment range rather than the top ten items.
Specification quality is where most bids die. A technical evaluation committee compares your submitted parameters against the tender clause and marks compliance line by line. If the manufacturer writes loose copy, you will spend the bid period reverse-engineering numbers you cannot certify. Manufacturer authorisation is procedural and unforgiving. Many tenders require an authorisation letter naming the bidder, the tender number and the items. Late is the same as absent. Documentation format matters because the buyer, not the factory, sets it. Public procurement in India and comparable systems elsewhere run to fixed document lists. Spares are where the relationship is tested. A teaching lab keeps equipment in service for a long time, and departments come back for consumables, sensors, seals and replacement parts. If your supplier cannot support that tail, your customer will replace the brand and blame you. Installation and warranty is the clause I would negotiate hardest. Site attendance costs money. Somebody pays it. If the agreement is silent, the person standing closest to the customer pays it, and that is you.
Direct selling is the question distributors most often avoid asking because they fear the answer. Ask it anyway. A manufacturer that sells direct is not automatically a bad partner, provided the rules are written: which accounts are protected, how enquiries from your territory are routed, and what happens when an end user approaches the factory. Silence on this point is how good relationships end.
Commercial terms: the questions to settle in writing before you sign
Everything below is negotiated per agreement and per market. I am deliberately publishing no figures. Any page that advertises a margin band, a minimum order quantity or a fixed lead time before knowing your territory, your volume and your product mix is quoting you a number it cannot honour. Treat this as the agenda for your commercial call, and insist the answers land in your quotation and your dealership agreement rather than in conversation.

Two practical notes. Put the answers in the agreement, not the covering email, because staff change on both sides. And ask for the whole set in one round rather than one question a week, since a supplier’s willingness to answer all ten in writing is itself the most useful signal you will get.
Import, customs and documentation you will actually handle
As the importer of record you carry classification, duty and clearance. Teaching and demonstration apparatus is commonly classified under HS heading 9023, which covers instruments, apparatus and models designed for demonstrational purposes and unsuitable for other uses. Treat that as commonly applicable rather than settled. Classification depends on the specific article and on the importing country’s tariff, so confirm the heading for each item with your own customs broker for your destination before you price a bid.
Duty rates, taxes and any destination-specific approval are your market’s business and change without reference to the factory. We will not quote them and you should be sceptical of any exporter who does.

What we ask from the distributor side
A dealership is a commercial relationship, not a listing. Being candid about the obligations is the point of this page, because it filters enquiries down to the ones worth both parties’ time.

How to open the conversation
Come with three things and the first call will be worth having. One: your territory and the customer segment you already sell to. Two: the disciplines and equipment types you expect to move, so we can discuss the parts of the range that matter to you rather than all of it. Three: your position on installation and after-sales in your market, including who would attend site.
What you will get back is a working conversation on structure, not a brochure. We will talk through pricing basis, territory, order structure, payment, warranty responsibility, spares and termination, and then put the terms we agree into a written quotation and a dealership agreement so both sides are reading the same document a year from now.
If the answer after that is that we are not the right fit for your line card, that is a good outcome. Filtering early is cheaper than unwinding a bad agreement later, and it is the reason this page argues rather than sells.
