This Refrigeration System with Two-Stage Compression links two compressors in series, each operating at a low pressure ratio, to overcome the drop in volumetric efficiency that occurs at high pressure ratios.
Product Overview Large pressure differences between the evaporator and condenser are necessary to reach very low temperatures. Since a compressor’s volumetric efficiency drops sharply at high pressure ratios, this Refrigeration System with Two-Stage Compression uses two compressors linked in series, each with a low pressure ratio. This allows the low pressure stage compressor to be sized more advantageously, since its large specific volume requires higher capacity at lower drive power.
Intercooling between the low pressure and high pressure compressors (LP and HP) further increases compression efficiency by bringing the HP compressor’s outlet temperature down to safe levels. This large ratio ensures thorough and near-complete heat transfer from the exhaust gas to the cooling medium, which is the core operating principle of the exhaust gas calorimeter.
Four temperature sensors record exhaust gas inlet and outlet temperatures and water inlet and outlet temperatures. A flow meter records the cooling water flow rate. All measured values are recorded electronically and displayed digitally using a measuring amplifier. The engine is connected to the calorimeter via an exhaust gas hose. The specific heat capacity of the exhaust gas can also be determined from the recorded data.
The Heat Conduction and Convection ThermoFlux – 7106 is a laboratory apparatus designed for basic experiments on heat conduction and convection, two of the three fundamental forms of heat transfer.
