Start with the answer: what this exporter makes, and what it does not
A search for a laboratory research equipment exporter in India usually comes from one of three people. A university or technical institute building a purchase list for a new department. A ministry, hospital or donor-funded project preparing a tender. Or a trading company looking for an Indian works it can represent in its own market as the original equipment supplier.
All three tend to land on the same brochure page and none of them get the one thing they came for, which is a plain statement of whether this particular Indian company builds the item they need. So the statement comes first, before the guide.

If you need an analytical instrument, a calibration laboratory service, or plant that has to satisfy a pharmaceutical regulator, go and find a specialist in that field. You will be better served and you will not spend three months discovering that the quotation you received was for something adjacent to the thing you asked about. I would rather write that sentence and lose the enquiry than take an order I should not have taken.
The rest of this page is the guide I give buyers who ask how to judge an Indian exporter, including buyers who go on to purchase from someone else. Manufacturer and exporter since 1993, own works at Ambala in Haryana, supply into more than sixty countries, ISO 9001:2015 certified. Everything is quote-based and there are no published prices, so nothing below carries a figure.
The four categories hiding inside the phrase “laboratory equipment”
The words mean four different industries. An exporter who says yes to all four is almost always trading, not making. Knowing which category your item sits in tells you what evidence to ask for.

The distinction matters commercially. A teaching rig is judged on whether a student can see and measure what the syllabus says they should see and measure, which is why our mechanical engineering lab equipment list and the parallel civil engineering list are written against course content rather than against a catalogue. An analytical instrument is judged on whether its results will stand up in a report. Those are different purchases with different risks, and a supplier who blurs them is telling you something about how they sell.
Judging an exporter is not the same as judging a manufacturer
Every Indian company with an export code can call itself an exporter. Fewer own a works. Fewer still can produce documents in the form your customs authority and your finance department will accept. Separate the two questions.

The calibration line is where most enquiries go wrong, so I will be blunt about our own position. Scientico is ISO 9001:2015 certified, which is a quality management certification covering how the works is run. Scientico is not ISO/IEC 17025 accredited and not NABL accredited. We issue factory calibration certificates only. If your tender or your accreditation body requires certificates from an accredited calibration laboratory, that work has to be commissioned separately in your country or from an accredited lab, and you should plan for it in your budget and your timeline. Anyone who tells you an ISO 9001 certificate and an accredited calibration certificate are the same document is either confused or hoping you are.
CE conformity documentation is available on applicable models. Ask which models, and ask for the document, not the logo. Export mechanics a first-time buyer needs to understand
The commercial negotiation is the part buyers rehearse. The part that actually delays shipments is documentation and packing. Structurally, this is what moves between the two of you.

Your own market may require a pre-shipment inspection, a conformity assessment scheme, or destination-specific labelling. Tell the exporter which scheme applies at the enquiry stage. Packing follows the freight mode, not the invoice
Sea freight in a shared container means weeks of vibration, humidity and rough handling. Air freight means fewer handling events and tighter weight discipline. Ask what packing standard applies to your mode, whether timber is treated for your country’s plant health rules, whether instruments and glass parts travel separately from frames, and whether the crate can be reopened and reclosed by the institution without destroying it. Many colleges store equipment for a term before commissioning, and a crate that cannot be closed again is a problem.
Installation, commissioning and who does what
Teaching equipment is mostly designed to be assembled by a competent technician using the manual. That is a deliberate design choice and it is also what keeps installation practical in markets where flying an engineer in is disproportionate. Agree in writing which of these applies to your order: self-installation with remote support, supervised installation by your local partner, or attendance by an engineer from the works with visa and travel handled as a separate line. Also confirm the electrical supply, frequency and plug standard for your country before manufacture starts, plus water and drainage where the item needs it.
Spares and cross-border warranty claims
The single best predictor of whether equipment is still in use five years later is whether the department could get a wear part. Ask for the consumable and wear part list at quotation stage, not later. Ask whether those parts are standard industrial items you can buy locally or proprietary parts that must come from India. Ask how a claim is raised, what evidence is required, who pays freight in each direction, and whether a replacement part ships before or after the returned part is inspected. A warranty that requires you to ship a heavy frame back across an ocean is not a warranty in any practical sense. Three buying routes, and what each demands of the exporter

If you are a trading company intending to represent an Indian works rather than buy one shipment, the appointment relationship is the actual product and the terms are set out on the distributor and dealership page. Payment and contracting, in structure only
No figures appear here and none should appear in a first conversation either. What matters at this stage is that both sides can name the structure they are working to.

Standards: cite them, and cite the current edition
Teaching and testing equipment is specified against published test methods, and quoting the method removes most ambiguity from a tender. Use the correct reference for the property being measured, and confirm the current edition of any standard before you publish a specification, because editions are revised and a superseded number invites a challenge.

If your enquiry is for a teaching department
Most of what we export goes to institutions building or refitting a department, so it is worth saying how those lists get built. Work from the syllabus, list the experiments, then list the equipment each experiment requires, then merge duplicates. Buying from a catalogue in the other direction produces rooms full of apparatus nobody is timetabled to use.

On the medical and nursing side, one point deserves emphasis for overseas buyers. What we export is training equipment for teaching institutions. A manikin or anatomical model is specified by what a student can practise on it, how the parts are replaced when they wear, how it is cleaned, and how it is stored. What to ask for in writing before a first order
Get these in an email, not on a call. A supplier who will put them in writing is a supplier who expects to be held to them.

If a supplier will not answer these, that is your answer. If they answer them and the answers rule them out for your item, they have saved you a quarter. Both outcomes are better than a purchase order written on optimism.
Send your enquiry with the syllabus or specification attached, the destination country and port, your freight mode, your electrical standard, and whether you are buying directly, appointing a distributor or bidding into a tender. With that, a quotation can be written against what you actually need rather than against a guess, and the categories that fall outside what this works manufactures can be ruled out on day one instead of week six.
